Hanmer Springs provides a huge variety of mountain bike trails, from novice to expert.
Our Star rating is 5 out of 5 (from Hanmer Apartments).
There are over 60km of tracks in and around the village, mostly single lane, some shared with walkers.
All tracks are within close distance to the village, so you can start from your accommodation without having to pack your bike on a car and drive, this makes it so easy and accessible.
There are great information resources available already online, so this blog will just point you in the right direction to find these. A little research before you ride will ensure a better experience!
First and foremost Hanmer Springs MTB Club has a great website which combines information with Trailforks (free signup) for specific tracks.
You really just need the club’s website to ensure you map out a route suitable for you without having to stop every 10 minutes to ensure you know where you are going.
There is a pumptrack on the other side of Dog Stream (Bath Street entrance) and a skills area to test your ability on Jollies Pass Road just down from the Heritage Forest sign (along from bridge).

Here are my suggested routes for different abilities:
Novice
Just keep south of Jollies Pass Road, the Heritage Forest is flat so can be ridden by kids to elderly
Easy Rider is a 6km loop that everyone can do.
You can tag on Perseverance for an extra 1.5km.
Lastly add Snakes n Ladders if you want some easy but challenging turns.

Intermediate
Area just north of Jollies Pass Road has some slope without being too extreme.
Mach 1 is a good starting point onto Western Link and then up Swamp and down Swoop.
For some extra try Swamp and Swoop as a loop another time?

Advanced
Steeper area behind Conical Hill is best, go up Clarence Valley Road, then start
Tank leading onto Yankee Zephyr or miss YZ and go straight to Tombstone.
Finish back with Big Foot and then Detox before heading back on Dog Stream.

If you really love steep downhill then you already know about:
Eagles Nest leading onto C Line
If you don’t value your life then go for Addiction !

Tip:
Bring along water & always rest up in the thermal pools afterwards (check closing time).

Naturally, you can ask Amy or Shane at Hanmer Apartments when you stay with us!
