Features:
Stunning 41 m high “Dog Stream Waterfall” at the top with peaceful surroundings. Mountain beech / tawhai forest featuring mosses, ferns, lichens & native orchids. Winding & moderately steep trail through dense native forest. Climbs up some wooden stairways in steep sections, track is well made & marked. Some small manageable river crossings. How to get there: From Hanmer Springs travel northeast along Jollies Pass Road for 2.2km, turn left onto McIntyre Road & follow it for next 1.5km. Turn left onto Mullans Road & follow it until you reach the carpark. (Total is 5 minutes’ drive from the thermal pools). Safety: Plan your trip, tell someone your plans. Be aware of the weather (if you cannot see the summit before starting out, do not attempt). Take sufficient supplies, know your limits. Do not attempt after high rainfall locally. Tip: Take you camera or smartphone for the fantastic shots at the waterfall summit. Water is very cold at summit, so a dip in the thermal pools afterwards is advised.
